# Setting Up Overlays

## **Overview**

Overlays are elements that appear on your stream, such as chat, donation animations, and other on-screen widgets. Properly setting up overlays can help create a more engaging viewing experience.

CIME currently provides five types of overlays.

| Chat Overlay           | Displays chat messages, donations, subscription messages, and other viewer activity.                                                                                                  |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Chat Donation Overlay  | Displays animations and effects for four event types: chat donations, mission donations, subscription messages, and gifted subscriptions.                                             |
| Mission Goal Overlay   | Displays active mission goals along with animations and effects. Chat donations are shown in the Chat Donation Overlay, while mission goals are displayed separately in this overlay. |
| Video Donation Overlay | Displays video donations, animations, effects, and accompanying messages directly on stream.                                                                                          |
| Effects Overlay        | Displays animations for warps, gifted subscriptions, and donation effects. Gifted subscriptions may appear in both the Chat Donation Overlay and the Effects Overlay.                 |

## **Setting Up Overlays**

To add overlays to your stream, you'll need to **add the overlay URL provided by CIME Studio to OBS.**

For example, here's how to set up the Chat Overlay:

1. In CIME Studio, go to \[Live Stream] → \[Stream Setup] and click \[Manage Settings] next to "Chat Overlay."
2. Copy the overlay URL from the settings page.
3. In OBS, click **\[Sources] → \[Add] → \[Browser Source]**.
4. Paste the copied URL.
5. Set the size to 720 × 1080.
6. Drag and resize the overlay to your preferred position on the canvas.

## **Recommended Overlay Sizes**

Each overlay has a recommended size when added to OBS.

| Chat Overlay           | 720 × 1080 px  |
| ---------------------- | -------------- |
| Chat Donation Overlay  | 800 × 840 px   |
| Mission Goal Overlay   | Width: 560 px  |
| Video Donation Overlay | 690 × 642 px   |
| Effects Overlay        | 1920 × 1080 px |

#### **Frequently Asked Questions**

Yes. If you change your channel handle, you'll need to refresh your overlays in OBS for the changes to take effect.
